After 10 months of living England, in both Oxford and London, my year had to come to an end. As the end of my stay was getting nearer, I was really dreading going back to the Netherlands, because I knew I would have to go back to a more 'real' and, from my perspective, inferior life... Yet my homecoming was rather nice; my parents decorated the living room with balloons with 'Welcome Home' on it, and my father had installed the record player I always wanted to have in my room, which was a great suprise. Straight after I came home I went to Rotterdam to enjoy a free music festival and had a great day with my friends here, as if it were old times :)
I left England on sundaymorning, after only having slept 3 hours due to attending Barden's Boudoir's Closing Party and having to get up round 5 on sunday.
I was really worried about the possiblity of my suitcase being to heavy (I didn't have ANY money left at all, not even in my account, so I couldn't have paid for the overweight) and it made me feel very anxious, so I couldn't have been a happier person when at the airport I found out it weighed 19.7 kilos (my allowance being 20 kilos).
So far, I'm finding the transition of being back in Holland quite difficult: I'm thinking in English, but have to speak in Dutch and often can't really think of words or fail to speak fluently. To say the least: I am lost in translation. Additionally, I often have this feeling when I hear people talking around me like 'hey there are more Dutch people around', only then to realize I am actually IN the Netherlands, so everyone WOULD speak Dutch. Traffic also immensly confuses me, leaving me thinking 'Hmm what side of the road does that bus stop..' and now I just have to look to both sides when I cross the street, so as to not get hit by a car (or cyclist for that matter).
I also seem to notice different Dutch accents and strange words more than I used to, and I suddenly find that everyone speaks annoyingly.
*maybe to be continued.
